About This Recipe

The quinces, which are harvested in September and take their place in supermarkets in October. So it’s a good idea to prepare a delicious jam with the first fresh and fully ripe quinces. I am one of those who do not like quince jam very sweet, that’s why I add less sugar compared to other jam recipes. Start the day with a slice of freshly toasted bread with quince jam.

What Do You Need to Make Your Own Homemade Quince Jam?

Making jam may seem like a daunting task, but the flavor and aroma of homemade jam are definitely worth the effort. For this jam, you just need 3 ingredients:

  • Quince: Wash the skin well and then peel the quinces. Cut them into small cubes or grate them like me. I made this jam in both ways, but for this article, I preferred to grate it.
  • Sugar: Compared to other jams, quince jam needs more sugar.
  • Cardamom pods: To make the jam more fragrant, add two to three cardamom pods to the jam.
  • Lemon juice

How to Make Quince Jam Like a Pro?

Wash quinces. Peel and chop or grate them. Pour water into the pot and add the chopped quinces. Put the pot on low heat and let them cook and soften a little. This step takes about half an hour. Once the quinces are slightly soft, add the sugar and cardamom pods. With gentle heat for 2 to 2.5 hours, let the jam cook and turn red. Once the jam is ready, add the lemon juice and let the jam simmer for 5 minutes, then remove it from the heat and let it cool. Pour the cooled jam into a jar and place it in the refrigerator. To have bright red jam, the heat must be gentle during cooking and you should cover the pot.

Flavorings and Variations

  • Sometimes I’ll add a little vanilla extract or cinnamon to the quince jam to add extra flavor.
  • You can use chopped or grated quince to make jam.
  • Sugar acts as a preservative for jam, so do not use less than the amount of sugar stated in the recipe.
