About This Recipe

If you like the cinnamon and apple combo these pancakes will be your new favorite. Nothing compares to the warming, fluffy, and soft apple cinnamon pancakes that taste just like a fresh out-of-oven apple pie. Double the deliciousness by pairing pancakes with golden and tart-sweet caramelized apples. I must say that apple cinnamon pancakes are among my top 3 favorite pancakes of all time.

Why You Will Love This Recipe

  • Perfect for fall: Two of the basic ingredients that are used in many autumn recipes are apples and cinnamon. The good news is that both of them are used in this pancake recipe. Cinnamon adds warmth, flavor, and natural sweetness to the apple pancakes.
  • Great leftover: Made a big enough batch of pancakes and don’t know what to do with the leftovers. These apple cinnamon pancakes keep well for 2 or 3 days. Just wrap them tightly in plastic wrap or place them in an air-tight container in the fridge.
  • Easy to make: These pancakes are so easy to make and they are done in less than 30 minutes! This simple recipe gives you a good reason to head into the kitchen and make your fall-flavored pancakes.

What Do You Need to Make Apple Cinnamon Pancakes

  • Flour: All-purpose flour will work just fine in most pancake recipes.
  • Baking powder: Baking powder is a leavening agent that increases the volume and lightens the texture of the pancakes.
  • Milk: Milk adds moisture and fat to the pancakes.
  • Melted butter: I think melted butter is the best option for this pancake, but if you like, you can also use vegetable oil.
  • Egg: You will need one or more eggs, depending on the number of pancakes you make.
  • Apples: If you like the taste of caramelized apples to be completely sweet, use red apples, which have a sweet taste, but if you like the taste of pancakes and topping to be tart-sweet, you can use Granny Smith apples, which have a sour taste.
  • Applesauce: Use unsweetened apple sauce without any added flavorings for this recipe.
  • Salt: You will find a small amount of salt in most pancake recipes.
  • Vanilla extract: Vanilla adds sweetness and flavor.
  • Brown sugar: Use brown sugar to sweeten the caramelized apples.
  • Cinnamon: Gives a sweet and spicy taste to the pancakes and caramelized apples.

How to Make Apple Cinnamon Pancakes With Applesauce

  • Place diced apples in a mixing bowl. Add brown sugar and cinnamon. Toss apples in the mixture until well coated.
  • In a small pot cook apples with medium heat and often stirring until golden and soft.
  • Stir in 2 tablespoons of butter and cook apples until the sauce is thickened and then remove from heat.
  • In a clean, dry bowl, mix the flour, salt, baking powder, and cinnamon.
  • In another bowl, whisk the applesauce, milk, vanilla extract, egg, melted butter, and sugar.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the bowl of dry ingredients and whisk so that the flour lumps do not appear inside the mixture.
  • Lightly grease a non-stick pan with oil spray. Pour 1/4 cup of the pancake batter into the pan.
  • When bubbles start to appear on the top surfaces of the pancakes, turn them over.
  • Stack them on a plate and top them with warm caramelized apples.

Expert Tips

  • There is no need to mix the batter too much. As soon as there are no more large lumps of flour in the batter, stop mixing.
  • Preheat the pan over medium heat before adding the pancake batter. Cook pancakes on each side for 2-3 minutes or until you see bubbles on the surface and the edges look golden brown and dry.
  • The thickness of the pancake batter should be such that it can be easily poured but not too runny.

FAQs

Can You Reheat Applesauce Pancakes?

Yes, you can reheat the leftovers. Preheat the oven to 350ºF. Arrange them in a single layer on a baking sheet. Brush pancakes with melted butter and reheat them for 5 to 10 minutes.

How To Store Apple Cinnamon Pancakes?

Allow the cooked pancakes to cool completely at room temperature. Once cooled, stack them with parchment paper in between each. This keeps them from sticking together. Cover in plastic wrap or put them in an airtight container and keep them in the refrigerator for 2 – 3 days.
