About This Recipe

You won’t be able to get enough of these fluffy and rich pancakes. Loaded with cocoa powder and drizzled with chocolate sauce these pancakes are irresistibly chocolate-y and loved by all.

What You Will Need to Make Chocolate Pancakes

These pancakes are made entirely with pantry items. See the step-by-step recipe below with all the tips you need to make fluffy chocolate pancakes.

  • Flour: Plain all-purpose flour works best for these pancakes.
  • Butter or oil: Butter gives a fluffy and moist texture to the pancakes.
  • Baking powder: Baking powder is a leavening agent that increases the volume and lightens the texture of the pancakes.
  • Salt: Add a pinch of salt to balance the sweetness.
  • Sweetener: You can use maple syrup, granulated sugar, or calorie-free sweetener to sweeten pancake batter.
  • Cocoa powder: Use high-quality cocoa powder for the best flavor.
  • Salt: You will find a small amount of salt in most pancake recipes.
  • Egg: You will need one or more eggs, depending on the number of pancakes you make.
  • Vanilla extract: Vanilla adds sweetness and flavor.
  • Chocolate sauce: Undoubtedly, the best topping for pancakes is chocolate sauce or melted chocolate with berries and fresh fruits.

Pro Tips to Make Chocolate Pancakes

  • If the pancake batter is runny, add a spoon or a little more flour and stir well.
  • If the pancakes were cooled before serving, you can reheat them in the oven at 350F for 5 minutes.

How to Make Chocolate Pancakes?

  • In a large bowl whisk all dry ingredients together (flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, sugar, and salt).
  • In another bowl crack the egg. Whisk egg with a fork until consistency is even. Then add the milk and room temperature melted butter or oil, and mix well. Add vanilla extract to the wet ingredients.
  • Stir in dry ingredients. Mix until combined. Do not overmix. Heat up a non-stick saucepan at medium heat, then add butter. You can use a 1/4 measuring cup or ladle to pour batter into the pan.
  • Cook each pancake until you see bubbles on the surface and the edges look golden brown and dry. Then stack them on a plate.
  • Top with melted chocolate or chocolate sauce and berries.
