About This Recipe
These bite-size and fruity, chocolate-dipped sweet treats will be everyone’s favorite! A simple recipe with just three basic ingredients that will be ready in no time. Chocolate-covered figs are quartered figs dipped in melted chocolate and sprinkled with ground pistachios or shredded coconut or other toppings.
What You Will Need for This Recipe
- Fresh and firm purple figs: Use firm figs instead of very ripe and tender ones.
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips: I prefer using semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips for this recipe but you can just use a chopped chocolate bar instead. Any high-quality melting chocolate is acceptable.
- Ground pistachio: As a topping, I sprinkled some ground pistachios on the figs, which is completely optional.
- Vegetable oil: Adding a teaspoon of vegetable oil or coconut while melting the chocolate helps to have a smooth and perfect consistency.
Pro Tips for Making Chocolate Covered Figs
- Use the highest quality chocolate to make better chocolate-covered fruits.
- After washing the figs, be sure to let them dry completely, then dip them in chocolate.
- You can melt the chocolate with the double boiler technique or in the microwave.
- For the double boiler technique put chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl. Fill a pot halfway with water. The bowl should fit over the pot, and will not touch the water in the pot. Remove the bowl from the pot and let the water boil. When the water boils, reduce the heat to a simmer. Place chocolate chips in the bowl and wait until the chocolate melts gently. When the chocolate is melted, add the vegetable oil, coconut oil, or butter and mix well. Remove the bowl from the pot and set it aside.
- Divide the figs into four parts with a knife. Insert a toothpick into the stem end of the figs and dip 1/2 of the figs into melted chocolate.
- I sprinkled some pistachio powder on the figs. You can sprinkle it with chopped almonds or hazelnuts.
